These liturgies are held throughout the school year at the 9 o’clock Mass. They are centered on the children. At the opening procession, a banner, representing the theme of the Mass, is carried to the altar. Each banner is completed by children in the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd grade of Holy Spirit School and Religious Education classes. The readings, which are in a language familiar to children, are taken from a children’s lectionary and read by a member of the CYO. The children are then invited to sit around the altar and the homilist speaks to them directly. Four children from grades 4 through 6 write and read their own petitions and a parish family brings up the gifts in the Offertory procession. If time permits, the children are invited to stand around the altar for the Our Father and encouraged to bring the sign of peace back to their families. A small gift, symbolic of the theme of the Mass, is presented to each child at the end of Mass.
Family Liturgy
