Holy Spirit Parish Women’s Retreat Team
November 29-December 24, 2020
Advent is a season of longing, of patient waiting. So all of us anticipate the miracle of the Incarnation—the birth of the Christ Child—as we do every year. Please know that the members of the Women’s Retreat Team also long to be with you for our traditional evening of reflection—to see your smiling faces, to be touched by the familiar warmth of praying in our beautiful church. However, at this moment, we’re compelled to refrain from embracing. But fear not, for one day we shall be together again.
Instead, for now, we invite you to join with us as we offer you the hope, peace, and joy of celebrating the four weeks of this season of Advent through Scripture passages and other readings, questions for meditation, to-do’s, music, video clips, and links to other resources. We’ll be praying for you in a special way and only ask that you pray for us, as well.

1. Daily Devotions for Advent 2020 (The Living Gospel) by Deacon Charles Paolino of RENEW International
Participants in our previous retreats/evenings of reflection received copies of books in this series. It’s an invitation to celebrate the season of anticipation and prepare to welcome Christ into your heart.
Offering spiritual guidance for 1st Sunday of Advent-Christmas Day, each 2-page daily devotion has brief scripture verses, prayers, reflections on God’s Word, and an easy-to-do spiritual exercise that can usually be completed the same day. These devotions will help root your prayer in the rich soil of Advent readings as you get ready for Christmas.
The Living Gospel offers spiritual insight and practical wisdom from popular Catholic speakers. The simple format lets you hear and embrace the living Word.
You can order either paperback ($1.95) or Kindle version ($.99) from Amazon at link below. If you need help ordering, please call Joan at 908-964-9261.
2. United States Conference of Catholic Bishops
Daily readings, podcasts, and videos—At that website, you can sign up to receive the daily readings in an email, which also will give you links to the other resources.
3. Creighton University, Jesuit school in Omaha, NE—“Praying Advent: A Rich and Powerful Season of the Church Year”
We often miss out on the significance of Advent because the weeks of December are full of secular preparations for Christmas. Each year, the busyness of the season distracts us from having an Advent season that truly prepares us to celebrate Christmas, with all its meaning. This site offers simple ways to enter into the spirit of Advent, week by week, in the midst of our everyday lives.
