Alexandra’s House is a perinatal hospice program located in Kansas City, Missouri.  They serve families and their babies who are expected to die near or shortly after birth due to various fetal anomalies.  Alexandra’s House assists with birth planning, doctor visits, testing, labor and delivery, memorial services, and bereavement care.  They offer comfort and meaning to suffering families.

Good Counsel Homes is a nationally recognized nonprofit leader and innovator in creating supportive residential care and community-based services for homeless, expectant, and new mothers and their children in the context of the Catholic social tradition.  Good Counsel today operates four homes in the Bronx, Harrison, Spring Valley, and Staten Island, New York, and one in New Jersey. Good Counsel also conducts a post-abortion ministry and referral network called Lumina and operates a national Helpline for new and expectant mothers.

Raphael’s Life House is a non-sectarian transitional home for pregnant homeless women.  The goal is to assist these women in establishing an independent living situation for themselves and their babies through on-site services that include tutoring, case management, computer training, home economics, nutrition training, and assistance with housing and job opportunities.  Each woman shares quarters with her baby in a safe, loving, and supporting environment for up to one year.

Documents that provide guidance when a person is no longer able to make health care decisions are called "advance directives."  It is recommended that those completing an advance directive also appoint health care representative(s) who is/are trusted and authorized to evaluate what the patient would want and to make those health care decisions.  The Catechism of the Catholic Church provides clear guidance on end-of-life issues.  The New Jersey Catholic Conference (NJCC) of Bishops has an "Advance Directives for Health Care" form which reflects the Catholic perspective.  A copy can be downloaded from the NJCC website:  www.njcathconf.org (Click on Respect Life Tab and then Living Will (Advance Directives for Health Care)).  The forms are also available in Spanish.
